Hey, I’m Matt. And I love type.

And light and texture. And CMYK and em dashes and G2 pens and brackets and photography and theatre and Guinness and coffee. And run-on sentences, apparently. Oh, and whiskey.

After four years at the University of Evansville in southern Indiana, I ventured west into the heart of the Rockies in an un-air conditioned Honda with a Visual Communication Design degree, a score of burned CDs and a driver’s tan, settling a mile high in Denver, Colorado. Originally from the big skies of Montana, I am glad to be breathing mountain air once again.

From humble beginnings crayoning on newsprint and sitting on the table watching Mom draw, I have grown into a surprisingly tall graphic designer with the adopted philosophy of design master Saul Bass—Design is thinking made visual. (Note: I’m not extremely tall… just surprisingly taller than expected.)

I work at Circuit Media in Denver designing for the weekly trade publication Law Week Colorado. Outside of the office, I volunteer for the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra and own my own business, Ligature Creative Group, which focuses on working with companies who do good work, including theatre companies, nonprofits and independent artists. I specialize in theatre marketing, typography and publication design.
