Photography

I don’t consider myself a photographer but rather a lover of light, color and texture who happens to know his way around a Canon DSLR. (And not-as-recently, a Pentax K1000 SLR). In college, I was fortunate enough to study traditional dark room photography and film processing under William F. Brown who taught me that there are no mistakes in art—only more opportunities.

Portraits
It is only recently that I have fallen in love with finding the moment in portrait photography that makes a photo great. Until now, I have always been afraid of shooting portraits. I found it awkward and a bit clumsy shooting people—there is so much less control with a moving subject. The difficulty is why I am drawn to it.

Travel Photography
The few things I love more than traveling include napping, whiskey and whiskey while traveling. When I was 19, I was lucky enough to study abroad at the University College Dublin. Using Ireland as a home base, I ventured off the Emerald Isle throughout the semester photographing, reading, writing, drawing, traveling, visiting museums across Europe and drawing inspiration & ambition from other cultures and artists. Since catching the travel bug, I’ve been to half of our fifty states and driven through a handful more; traveled to Mexico for work with Circuit Media; and flew back to Ireland for a week to drink Guinness and walk through the rain.

Photography in Design
From time to time, I will dig through my archive of thousands of photos and pull out some texture images to use in my designs. Or, I’ll set up a photo shoot with actors for a poster or piece of marketing material. Every project is different, but here are a few that incorporate my own photography.
